In so far as my choosing to sculpt metal, the metal originally chose me.
The fascination with it flows in my veins, just as it has through my
family for generations. I heat and form and strike the metal,
bending it to my will. It, in return cuts and burns and breaks me,
reminding me always of its quiet, magnificent power. It is not a union of adversaries, but rather a labor of both joy and pain. I honor the metal and expose its beauty as I shape it into a tangible figment of my imagination.
I have been schooled in many ways in many places, from books, to fists to the irrefutable genius of a childs logic. I am a graduate with honors from the University of Good Art Sense, and my Masters thesis is a declaration of my reverence for the power and beauty of the simple organic form. As an unrefined mineral, the metal longs for its visual beauty to emerge. It is in this moment where I find my calling. Just as the bud is coaxed to bloom by soil and water, through my hands and mind the metal
experiences a transformation, the fruit of which Is my art.
