About Eric
Eric Holt was born in 1963 in Fresno California. The son of a master sheet metal worker, he was introduced at an early age to the tools and techniques of metal fabrication. By the age of 10, Eric was already beginning to show his prodigious skills while helping his father build race car frames. Under his fathers' tutelage, he was given many difficult tasks and challenges to foster his technical aptitude. In his teenage years, he discovered two passions that would forever change his life, surfing and skateboarding. Their aggressive nature, combined with their incredible amount of balance, harmony and flow, had a profound effect on Eric that to this day continues to influence and inspire his life and work. As a young adult, he continued to pursue his love for the ocean and surfing. He used his metal skills in the construction trades to earn a living while also traveling the world in search of waves and adventure. Eric's nomadic lifestyle finally began to wane after he moved to San Francisco, married and started a family. A self trained artist, Eric stumbled upon his art career while crafting a steel vessel as a gift for his wife. The pure joy of creation melded instantly with the skill in his hands and the result was the birth of yet another passion, sculpting. He began with smaller works, furniture, and functional objects. He started marketing his work, and it sold as fast as he could produce it. As his studio spaces increased in size, so did the size of his work. Since then he has participated in many art events, enjoyed gallery recognition, and exponentially grown his list of collectors. After moving to Portland, Oregon in 2000 and into an even larger studio, Eric's body of work has evolved into its current phase of massive abstract sculpture. He now enjoys taking on corporate and private commissions, public art placements, and of course, frequent trips to the beach.
